Pool Servicing Products: What You Need to Maintain Your Pool

LayorCare Blogger • Nov 18, 2020

There are tons of pool servicing products out on the market, but what do they do and what do you actually need? We're here to help you answer those questions.

pool servicing

There are more than 10 million swimming pools in homes across America. These are a great place to play with your kids, get fit, or keep cool in the summer months.

However, maintaining your pool properly is extremely important if you want to enjoy it all year around. This is why most people spend around $1,400 a year on pool servicing.

Pool cleaning is vital if you want to keep yours in good condition and avoid larger-scale issues developing. What do you need to maintain your pool properly?

If you want to keep your pool clean all-year-round, here are the most important things you need to do. Read on to find out more!

Disinfecting the Water

Checking the quality of the water in your pool is extremely important if you want to keep it clean. This is because the water can contain all sorts of bacteria and other deposits that could harm your pool and anyone who uses it.

Fortunately, it is fairly simple to treat your pool's water using chemicals, such as chlorine, salt, or bromine. These products will help to prevent algae growth in your pool, along with other issues. If certain issues do arise, you can use shock treatments to get these under control quickly.

However, you will also need:

  • A disinfectant level
  • A pH value kit
  • A stabilizer level
  • An alkalinity check

These let you check the balance of the water in your pool at all times. Any discrepancies on the indicators show an imbalance in the water. The sooner you treat this the better.

Pool Servicing and Correction Treatments

There are various pool cleaning products that you should use in your pool on a regular basis.

pH correctors, for example, will maintain the pH balance in your pool so that it is safe for you to swim in. These come either as a liquid or in powder form. If you are going to use a liquid pH corrector in your pool it's a good idea to use this with an automatic dosing system.

Your pool will need regular doses of chlorine to kill bacteria in it. You can get this in tablets, granules, or as a liquid.

Tablets are ideal for the regular, slow-release treatment of your pool, while granules work better for quick, shock treatments. You can also use liquid chlorine in your pool, however, it can be difficult to get the concentration of this right. Liquid chlorine is also more dangerous to store, so you're better off with tablets or granules.

Cleaning the Floors and Walls

Keeping the water in your pool clean won't stop dirt and algae from growing along the walls and on the floor of your pool. This is why it's important to clean these regularly.

There are several ways that you can do this.

You can clean your pool manually by sweeping the bottom of your pool and brushing along the walls with a pool broom. You can also use a pool vacuum to clean your pool more thoroughly. However, this requires a lot of energy for you to do it on a regular basis.

Thankfully, you can save yourself time by investing in a pool robot. These automatic pool cleaners work a lot like a pool vacuum but they don't require supervision. Instead, they simply hook up to your pool's filtration system and move around the floor and walls of your pool cleaning as they go.

On top of this, they provide a more thorough clean as they vacuum and brush at the same time so they're well worth the investment.

For an extra clean of your pool's floor and walls, you can also add a pool calcium remover to the water before you set your robot going. For more tips on cleaning your pool's tile, check out the top seven tile cleaning mistakes to avoid.

Cleaning the Pool Waterline

The waterline of your pool is a common area where you will get a build-up to dirt. This is the place where the water meets the air along your pool wall. This happens when dirt and debris travel across the surface of the water until they stick to the wall.

Thankfully, specially-designed waterline brushes are effective at cleaning this area of your pool and are more durable than basic sponges. They will also clean without damaging the lining of your pool. For something a bit more ergonomic to help you get into all the nooks and crannies, why not take a look at gloves with sponges built into them?

For a deeper clean and to remove more stubborn stains, you can use liquid or gel cleaners on the side of your pool. When doing this, make sure you choose one that won't damage the surface of your liner.

It's a good idea to clean the waterline of your pool before you set your pool robot going. That way, the robot will catch and clean up any debris that does sink back down into the pool as you clean.

Your waterline will also stay cleaner for longer if you remember to regularly skim debris off the top of your pool using a net. For extra protection, why not install a pool cover?

Make Pool Maintenance a Priority

When it comes to keeping your pool in good condition, the most important thing is to create a regular pool servicing routine. This will help to deal with minor cleaning jobs on a regular basis and will prevent more serious issues from developing.
